I bought a Mass XXX protein weight gainer and the directions says to use 4 scoop level. What is a 4 scoop level? One serving gives 750 calories and 50 grams of protein with a 4 scoop level. The product comes with a scoop and i only take one of that. 4 scoops seem to many.

Answer #1:
Flag | Mass XXX is one of my favorite supplements, but the directions on how to take it are rediculous. the human body can only absorb about 40 grams of protein at one time in the first place, so 50 is just not necessary. the way i take my Mass XXX is i take 2 rounded scoops in 14 ounces of whole milk right before bed. the milk adds extra calories and protein which allows you to use less powder and will make your tub last longer. another good way to take it is, if you want to take it twice a day, take 1 scoop in 12 ounces of whole milk in the morning, and one before bed. if you dont or cant drink milk then you will need more powder and your tub wont last as long. hope this was some help. |

Answer #2:
Flag | it means 4 level scoops to get 750 calories...
if you just take 1 scoop, you are only getting 187.5 calories....
It comes down to your body getting enough calories to grow. Use as many scoops as you need to get additional calories to reach your target caloric intake per day.
If you don't know what your target caloric intake should be, times your body weight by 22 and that is where you need to be, or higher.
It make take work to get this many calories, but without them you won't grow. |

My son is 9 and a half years old and is starting his second season of rocket football. I have read in multiple places that you should not start kids out on weights until they are around 13 or so. So I guess my question is, is there any types of protein drinks for example American Whey or similar product that he can take after practices? I have a big tub of this on the way and if its ok to give him some after practices. He is around 70-75 lbs. other than that, does anyone have other suggestions of things he can do to help him? Would small resistance machines in our kids section at the gym be ok? i dont think hes ready for free weights at this age. Thank you.

Answer #1:
Flag | I don't think you're kid really needs to lift, just let him be a kid. Playing football requires running and maybe some push ups but at 9 He doesn't need to be in any weight rooms yet.
About whey, I personally wouldn't give it to my kid yet, I'd make sure he drinks enough milk, getting calcium and protein from that is good for developing strong bones. If you want to mix a scoop in with milk and see if he likes it over chocolate milk, go ahead, but I'd just let him be a kid. |

Answer #2:
Flag | At age 9, he is going to be gaining lean mass and strength without much help as his body is maturing on its own. Right now, just stick with letting him be a kid and grow into his body.
The protein isn't a bad idea. Try some chocolate or some strawberry. A little protien never hurts and its way better than the Nesquick or chocolate milk he's drinking right now.
Also, you could try making some shakes with vanilla. Get some of his favorite fruit and create your own protein ***tail in the blender to get him some high quality nutrition

Flag | Thank you for your reply, but this is coming from him. I hinted to him to wait for weights. I am not pushing him to hit the weights. They do push ups and cardio and all that. He loves his sports and does great without this stuff. Just didnt think it would hurt him to try some whey or something. Thank you again for your help. |

Answer #4:
Flag | I completely agree with these guys, i dont think kids under the age of 14 should weight-lift. There will be plenty of time for them to weightlift in their teens and possibly throughout their lives. The summer of 8th grade/ the start of freshman year i would say is the best time to start. |

Answer #5:
Flag | I see no real problem with giving your child a higher protein diet (keeping children away from McDonalds and junk food will help curb the incredible rate of child obesity in this country). With that said, focusing more on chicken, steak and fish during meals will be just as beneficial to him because he is getting all the nutrients he needs at this time. A protein shake is not going to be bad for him so long as it is not high in sugars and is used as a supplement, not a replacement meal. The fact however, is that a glass of milk has very much the same benefits to a 9 year old as the whey protein and is less expensive.
As for lifting, I would definatly stear clear of this for a 9 year old. The reason being that at 9 years old, your son is going to be growing rapidly and in spurts. The epiphesial bone ends can grow dramatically in short amounts of time and not allow enough time for the tendons to stretch. This is the common cause of most "growing pains". When you start lifting, you add more stress to the already "slow stretching" tendons and can further increase his discomfort during a growth phase. Any injury sustained during football can be further increased by the micro-tears that tendons incur through lifting.
As for strength excercises, have him do as many pushups and pull-ups as he can as well as calesthenics (jumping-jacks, supermans, etc...). These are great full body excercises that will help build stabilizing muscles, increase agility and dexterity, and not cause additional strain on his joints. Hope this helps. |

Answer #1:
Flag | If you are a beginner, anything will work, so just use what you have and follow the workouts.
Stick to the nutrition plan that comes with it.
As far as protein goes, find one that you can digest well, as that is the biggest sign your body is actually using it.
Some popular proteins are Optimum & GNC Wheybolic. |

Answer #3:
Flag | these are both effective products, but that isn't the point.
first of all at 18 there is no reason for you to need a ph to get big. not only are your natural hormone levels in the peak years of your life, but they are also in fluctuation and influencing them in any way at this age can have severe consequences especially because you know nothing about ph's or how to pct them, not to mention that the proper pct's are hard to get your hands on (serms).
define 'big'. in 2 months, you can do some decent gaining with proper diet and training, but you have to be patient. start off with creatine and whey protein and get your 8 hours each night, and you'll be surprised at your gains.
if you aren't gaining naturally at your age, then your diet or training is off.
best of luck and if you have any questions, let me know.

Answer #1:
Flag | Ok, well first of all you are going to have to concentrate on one at a time rather than trying to get big and cut simultaneously. Since you say you don't have far to go with your fat loss, I would do the cutting first. From there, start a lean bulk to put on the size slowly.
There really isn't a necessity for a liver support since you aren't on a cycle, but it doesn't hurt anything.
As for what supps to start with: A preworkout like NO Xplode, Jack3d, SuperPump250, or NO Shotgun. A Protein like 100% Gold Standard Whey, or Pro Complex would work well. If you wish you can add a creatine like Cre02, GreenMag, or Kre-Alkalyn.
Even before the supps, you will be surprised how big of a part your diet plays into your goals. Make sure you have this and the training part down before your worry about anything else.
Anything else, let me know.

Answer #1:
Flag | First of all, lifting weights doesn't mean that you're trying to be a bodybuilder. They are beneficial in strengthening tendons, joints, and muscle as well as increasing bone density. 22inchpipes listed some of the best exercises for anyone to start with as they are multi-joint exercises and not isolation ones, with squats and deadlifts being the best of the bunch for getting bigger.
Frankly this or any supplement is going be pretty much worthless if you aren't lifting. Instead, start with your diet. If you are seriously 94 lbs. you have to eat like its going out of style.
So what to eat? Plenty of good protein like steak, chicken, fish, eggs, cottage cheese, etc. Good fats like peanut butter, olive oil, fish oil, sunflower seeds, almonds, walnuts, etc. Carbs as well from good sources: oatmeal, whole grain bread, brown rice, sweet potatoes, etc.

Answer #2:
Flag | No need to take offense. As Petey said, I did list the exercises you should do. Keep it simple and try to get stronger each workout. "Heavy" is relative. Basically it's another word for challenging.
You have to force your body to gain muscle and weight and you do it by getting stronger, little by little.
Petey's post below is spot on in regards to diet and how little supplements will help if you aren't training hard. |
